How to set up Hex Connect.
Hex Connect is the Windows and Mac connection path for shops that want supported local printer communication and a cleaner way to prepare printers for queue work.
Before you start
Have the printer information ready and choose the trusted Windows or Mac computer that can reach the printers on the local shop network.
- Printer name: use the name operators recognize on the shop floor.
- Printer model: include brand and model so files can be routed correctly.
- Nozzle and material: record the default nozzle size and common material type.
- Connection choice: choose Hex Connect for supported local printer workflows or Manual for tracking-only use.
- Local connector: download the Windows or Mac package and pair it from the trusted shop computer.
Setup steps
Use this path when preparing a new printer for queue work.
Open Setup & Fleet
Go to the Hex Connect area and review the connection guidance for your shop.
Download and pair Hex Connect
Use the Windows or Mac download, run the pairing file, enter the six-digit pairing code, and keep Hex Connect running while the app should reach supported local printers.
Add or edit the printer record
Enter the printer name, model, build volume, nozzle, and status. Choose Hex Connect as the connection method when the printer will use that path.
Confirm the printer is ready
Set the printer status to Ready when it is available for queue work. Use Maintenance or Offline when it should not receive jobs. For supported OctoPrint and Moonraker/Klipper setups, enable local control only after the printer connection has been verified.
Queue a matching file
Select a file, printer, material, quantity, and priority. The cleaner the printer record is, the easier the queue is to run.
Best practice
Keep Manual as the fallback for printers that are tracked by the shop but not connected through Hex Connect. That lets the whole farm stay visible without forcing every printer into the same setup.
